One of the most emblematic establishments in Platja d’Aro, The Swan, has closed its doors for good this Sunday 31 of May, putting an end to a trajectory of almost seven decades in the center of the municipality.
Founded in 1957 on Avinguda de s'Agaró, El Cisne had become a true symbol of the town and was considered the oldest active commercial establishment in Platja d'Aro. For generations, neighbors, visitors and holidaymakers have stopped by their tables for breakfast, make a coffee, taste their cakes or simply share some time in one of the most recognizable places in the municipality.
The announcement of the closure has generated numerous displays of nostalgia among regular customers, that remember El Cisne as an inseparable meeting point in the modern history of Platja d'Aro. Many emphasize the classic atmosphere of the place, the family treatment and a decoration that, far from following current fashions, it preserved the essence of another era.
According to various information, the owning family has sold both the commercial premises and the upper house to investors, that plan to allocate the space to the rental market.
The closure of El Cisne adds to the progressive disappearance of other historic businesses in Platja d'Aro, in a context of commercial transformation marked by the arrival of new brands and franchises. For many neighbors, its disappearance represents the loss of a part of the collective memory of the municipality.
With the blind down for the last time, Platja d'Aro says goodbye to one of its great classics. A place that for almost 70 years has witnessed the evolution of tourism on the Costa Brava and that will be etched in the memory of many generations.
