The future Municipal Market of Palamós continues to take steps forward. The City Council has already awarded 11 of them 19 interior stalls of the new commercial equipment, a figure that confirms the interest of professionals in the sector to be part of a space that aspires to become a benchmark for local commerce in the municipality.
The awarding process is part of the comprehensive renovation of the Municipal Market, a strategic action that must allow the equipment to be modernized and adapted to new consumption habits. The concessions correspond to the sales points that will occupy the new covered market, currently in the final phase of the reform works.
The tender included a total of 19 indoor stalls mainly intended for activities related to food and the sale of fresh and local products. With the 11 already formalized awards, still remain 8 available spaces that are expected to be covered in future processes or through new calls.
The new Municipal Market will be a key piece to strengthen the local commercial fabric. The project maintains the current location but completely transforms the building, both functionally and aesthetically. The ground floor, with more than 1.200 square meters of commercial surface, it will have a glazed facade that will allow more natural light to enter and a better visibility of the stops from the outside.
The reform, with an investment higher than 2,4 million euros and partially financed with Next Generation European funds, also incorporates improvements in accessibility, energy efficiency and complementary services. Among the novelties will be an elevator, adapted parking areas and new spaces for warehouses and services for traders.
In the meantime, the stallholders continue to develop their activity in the temporary market installed on Avinguda de Catalunya, waiting for the works to be definitively finished and the transfer to the new equipment can be completed.
The aim of the council is for the new Municipal Market to be consolidated as a modern space, sustainable and attractive, able to promote the local product and boost the economic activity of the center of Palamós during the coming decades.
